D Value

"D" value indicates the position of the flat portion of the valve stem when the valve is in the Off position. The value for "D" is specified as 12, 3, 6, or 9 o'clock.

While most knobs will work if they are the correct diameter and fit on the valve, for proper visual effect knobs must have the same "D" value as the valve they are used with.

Say your grill has valves with stems with the flat portion of the D at 9 o'clock, and your knobs all have the word "Off" at the top. A replacement knob must also have the D value at 9 o'clock or the word "Off" will not be at the top.
